She sits on the floor
Knees curled up tight
She knows that this session
Will be another fight
She has her tools with her
Doesn’t want to use them
But today is much harder
Her head so full of mayhem
She hesitates for a moment
Unsure but with a little hope
Then slowly she hands over
The tools that help her cope
She listens to the softness
As her therapist starts to speak
She tries to raise her head
Her gaze too scared to seek
She listens to the words
She listens to her voice
She thinks that she can trust her
She knows this is her choice
She listens to the kindness
As she begins to feel unsafe
She thinks she can believe her
She is safe within this space
She knows that she can see it
How she is full of sadness
But she is scared to show her
Her mind so full of blackness
She’s scared and she is fragile
But knows she has to try
This is the hardest session
She really wants to cry
She tries to tell her story
She tries to tell her truth
She tries to tell the secret
She has hidden since her youth
Her head feels kind of heavy
Her eyes are kind of sore
Her chest is kind of painful
Hurting to its core
Anger rises up within her
Fear starts to gain control
By now she would be cutting
To free her mind and soul
She begins to fidget
She knows this is a sign
She knows she has to fight it
Her hands she does entwine
She squirms and curls up tighter
She looks around the room
Closed in with her emotions
Feeling so entombed
Her therapist sees her struggle
Says that she is brave
But brave she doesn’t feel
For cutting she does crave
She still tries to resist it
Knows her therapist is there
She knows that she can help her
Her burden they can share
Slowly her energy fizzles out
Her tenseness disappears
Now she just feels tired
With numbness getting near
Another session finished
More emotion done
Her truth she has just started
This has only just begun
She has started to tell her story
She has started to tell her truth
She has started to tell her secret
She has hidden since her youth
She knows she has to fight
To put the fear aside
She knows that she can help her
She knows it deep inside
Together they will fix her
Stop her being broke
Therapy is her lifeline
Her therapist is her hope.
